CIty of Bones- Mortal Instrument Book One

Third times a charm! At least it was in this case. I first tried reading this book two years ago because, there was so much hype surrounding it, the movie was about to come out and everyone was so excited. I put it down about half way through because, I really wasn't into it. Then last year in 2015 I again tried to pick it up. That time I got about 100 pages in before I got absorbed in school work. Now in March 2016 I finally decided to give it a go one last time. Thank goodness I did! I loved it. I don't know what changed, perhaps the excitement of the television series? Whatever it was I am thankful for it. So now, onto my thoughts....

Characters (Just a few):
  • Clary Fray- {Insert sassy emoji} Clary  is our lovely little spunky red headed main character. She lives an average life like the rest of us... until she discovers she's part of the shadow hunter world! OK, so when I tried reading this book previously I just couldn't connect with Clary's character. However, now I love her! It did take me a while to get to know her but it was worth the wait. She's very quirky and introverted (which is something I can relate to) and she is truly mesmerized by this world like the rest of us.
  • Jace Wayland- {Insert googly heart eyes}. Where do I begin with this beauty? Dark, smoldering, mysterious with just a hint of sarcasm (okay maybe a lot of sarcasm). What else do you need to love him.
  • Simon- {Insert Nerd Alert}- Ahhhh.... Simon.... I have a lot of mixed feelings for him. I enjoy his character and his comedic genius one liners ("Also, Im cross dressing and sleeping with your mom"). But, at points I found him a little annoying. He is adorable but it was frustrating to see
Now the thing about this novel is that it is slow starting. It took about a 100 pages for me to fully get into it. However, once you push past that it picks up and you don't want to put it down. There is a lot of information in the book and you have to be paying to close attention to all the terminology. I had to read back again on some paragraphs because, there was just so much information to know that are very important for future references.

I do not own this photo

Tommy took this photo in happier times, before the smiles left our faces and before we forgot what
laughter sounded like. Every Saturday we rode our bikes to the little park that sat across from the drugstore. Lilly always told her parents she was studying at the library. Lawrence was in college and he always bought the cigarettes for us. We would smoke them under the apple tree and watch the kids pass by. We stayed there until the sun went down and the stars came up. Sometimes we talked the whole day, sometimes our days were filled with laughter, other times none of us spoke a word. Lawrence was the first to stop coming to our Saturdays under the trees, he got a girlfriend and spent his Saturdays with her at the local diner instead of with us under our tree. Jimmy left next, he got a job at the gas station and left us for convertibles. Lilly left after her parents found out that her Saturdays were not filled with studies and books. Tommy started to hang out with a different crowd and didn’t even bother giving us a glance. Soon it was just me under that big old tree with our names carved into its branches.

We used to come out to the beach and laugh at the cute boys that passed us by. We would  eat ice cream at the parlor and talk about our futures and dreams. Laura wanted to be a model for the magazines, she was constantly posing for photos and she had the most beautiful smile that would sweep any man off his feet. Emma wanted to be a teacher at the local school. Janice just wanted to have fun. She wanted to travel the world and meet boys and dance, oh how she loved to dance. Margaret wanted to have kids and be married to a wonderful man and live in a nice brick house with blue shutters and a white fence. I had no clue my future or my dreams. All I know is that the sand under our feet as we chased eachother around was filled with memories, that the splashes we threw at each other were cold and filled with laughter. I will never forget our trips to the beach even if the dreams we had along the way got a little lost.
(This is my little short story to go along with this photo, I do not own this photo)

Epic Reads Book Tag :)

Saw this book tag over on the honestbookblog and thought it looked like fun! The original tag was created by Epic Reads! Enjoy

  1. If you could invite one author and one of their fictional characters to tea, who would you invite and what would you serve them?- I would have to invite Chris Colfer author of, "The Land of Stories" , because he is my idol and I look up to him a lot and I would have him bring the evil queen because I want to hear more of her story. I would serve them some yummy blueberry scones. Perhaps an apple for the queen ;)

      2.  What book do you wish the author would write a prequel for?- Twilight! I would love to see more of Edwards life and the rest of the Cullen's before Bella. I would run and buy that one the minute it hit shelves!

      3. Which two characters (not from the same book) do you think would make a good couple?- I would love to see Four and Katniss go on a date! I love Four and Trish as well as Katniss and Peeta but, I think it would be interesting to see them together.
      4. If you ran into your favorite author on the subway and only could say one sentence to them, who is it and what would it be?- If I ran into (not sure who my favorite author is) I would probably mumble and say ahdngrignbfd.. because I would be too starstruck!
      5. What book made you a reader and why?-The book that really made me a big reader was "Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins. It was the first dystopian novel I had read and the book really pushed me into the bookworm world! :)
      6. Incendio! Your bookshelf just caught on fire! Show us the one book you save.- I would save one of my childhood books because of the sentimental attachment I have to them.
    7. Which dystopian world would you want to live in if you had to choose one? Why?- Ummm.... NONE!
       8. What is your most epic read of all time?- I have had some pretty epic reads! However, I will probably have to go with the, "Divergent" trilogy! I flew through the series and was engrossed in the world, characters, and the action.
    9. Also, tag some friends to answer these questions! -  I tag all of you wonderful people to do this lovely tag!

Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Obsidian

Synopsis: Katy is new in town and she is in for a surprise. Her next door neighbors are....Aliens! After an incident Katy is stuck with Daemon. Did I mention he is gorgeous and also a total jerk! What could go wrong?

I couldn't put this one down. It was just too good. I picked this one up knowing I would like it but I had no idea I would love it! All the feels came out while reading this book. I cried, laughed, cried and laughed, etc. I just adored every page. It's an epic paranormal romance with loads of action and funny moments.

Everything about this book was amazing! Katy was a great narrator who I could easily relate to. Her sarcastic personality and snarky comments lightened the mood when intense moments were happening (not to mention her love for books). Daemon was really the star of the show though! I instantly fell for him when he opened the door. He was the whole "bad boy next door with a soft side." Watching his gentler side come out when he was with Katy was sweet. His and Katy's relationship was by far my favorite thing about the book. There romance was so "gahhhh', there are no words to describe it! Daemon was also really funny and the bickering between him and Katy made me burst out laughing! Dee was another one of my favorites. She was kind, gentle and just a typical girl (minus the whole alien from another planet thing). The characters are what really made this book so good.

The action in this book made me feel like I was there kicking Arum butt with them! The powers that the aliens had were awesome. I was always on the edge of my seat watching them put there powers to use. The super speed, strength, etc. are all things I wish I could do. I thought the concept of them in their "true form" (light) was a neat idea. It made me double think the whole "little green dudes."

Basically, you need to read this book. Like now! Like seriously go pick it up and fall in love with the story as I did.
